Orbea

Avant

Orbea's endurance road bike, designed for comfort on long rides with a more upright position than Orbea's Orca race bike. The Avant was sold with a carbon or an aluminium frame and with disc or rim brakes. The variant and year of the bike in the photo are not confirmed: the photographer describes it as set up with Shimano Ultegra and hydraulic disc brakes.

Pros & Cons

The main trade-offs of the Orbea Avant.

Advantages

  • More upright and comfortable than a race bike on long rides
  • Room for wider tyres and mudguards makes it practical all year
  • Hydraulic disc brakes give strong braking in the wet

Disadvantages

  • Less aerodynamic and a little slower than a pure race bike
  • Tyres are limited to about 28 mm, so it is not a gravel bike
  • The exact frame material depends on the version
